Frequently Asked Questions

All Ed.D. students are required to attend one Summer Institute to fulfill their degree requirements.

The Summer Institute will begin on Friday, July 13, 2018 and ends on Sunday, July 15, 2018 at 5:00 p.m. 

The Summer Institute will be held at Nova Southeastern University's Fort Lauderdale/Davie Campus located at 3301 College Avenue, Fort Lauderdale, FL.  Most of the sessions will take place in the DeSantis Building (home to NSU's H. Wayne Huizenga College of Business & Entrepreneurship).
No. Students are responsible for making their own travel arrangements, but the Travel and Accommodations tab includes some resources to help you plan your trip.

Students are responsible for making their own reservations, but NSU has contracted with several hotels in the Plantation/Davie area to offer special rates and services to NSU students and guests. 

Visit http://www.nova.edu/travel/hotels to find a hotel and book your room; use corporate code "NSU" to get the best rates. 

 

No, you may make a reservation at any hotel in the area.

NSU will not provide transportation to the Main Campus.  You will be responsible for your own transportation to and from NSU. Check with your hotel regarding availability of shuttle service to and from NSU's campus.

No, you will have to arrange for your own transportation from the airport to your hotel. Check with your hotel about the availability of shuttle service to and from the airport.  You may also make use of any of the local taxi, shared ride, or car services that are available at the airport upon your arrival.

Business Casual: wear comfortable clothing and bring along a light jacket or sweater since all university facilities are air-conditioned.  Please keep in mind that the weather can be very unpredictable, especially in the summer, so we suggest that you bring an umbrella.

Attending one Summer Institute is a requirement for graduation.

  • If this is your first year in the program, you are encouraged (but not required) to attend the 2018 Summer Institute. If for some reason you cannot attend this year, we look forward to seeing you at the 2019 Summer Institute. 
  • If this is your second year or longer in the program and have yet to meet the program requirement of attending a Summer Institute, you are required to attend the 2018 Summer Institute to fulfill this graduation requirement.
Yes! Returning Abraham S. Fischler College of Education doctoral students are encouraged to attend and take advantage of the numerous workshops by registering for FSC 8005. Online registration is easy at https://sharklink.nova.edu/.

First-Time Attendees: Regular registration for FSC 8000 began on March 19, 2019, and will close on June 3, 2018; the registration fee is $695. Late registration for FSC 8000 will be accepted from June 4, 2018 through July 6, 2018, and will incur an additional late fee of $100. 

Returning Students: Regular registration for FSC 8005 began on March 19, 2019, and will close on June 3, 2018; the registration fee is $695. Late registration for FSC 8005 will be accepted from June 4, 2018 through July 6, 2018, and will incur an additional late fee of $100.

First-time attending students registering for FSC 8000 and returning students registering for FSC 8005 will pay a fee of $695 for registrations completed prior to June 3, 2018.  Late registrations will be accepted from June 4, 2018 through July 6, 2018 at a fee of $795. Online registration is easy at https://sharklink.nova.edu/.

No, the FCE Summer Institute is designed to give students an opportunity to network with each other and focus on completing their degree requirements.

Students may invite one guest each to join them at the reception that will be held on Saturday, July 14, 2018, from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. on NSU's main campus. A nominal fee will apply.    

At the completion of the summer semester, and after verification that attendance and all requirements (concurrent sessions, workshops, etc.) have been met, a grade of "Pass" will be issued. This final grade will appear on your transcript for FSC 8000 or FSC 8005.
