Barbara Packer-Muti, Ed.D., is the Executive Director, Office of Institutional and Community Engagement at Nova Southeastern University (NSU) since 2007. She has primary responsibility for NSU’s Quality Enhancement Plan, for a variety of employee, alumni, student, and community affiliates’ surveys, for the President’s annual Town Hall meetings, and for a variety of special projects for NSU’s President, Chief Operating Officer and Provost. She co-chairs the University-Wide Crisis Response/Emergency Preparedness Task Force and the University’s Enterprise Risk Management Committee. She is responsible for application to and maintenance of the Carnegie Elective Classification for NSU as “community engaged.”
Prior to her current position at NSU, Dr. Packer-Muti was Dean of Academic Affairs at the Fischler School of Education. She also served as the first director of the Applied Research Office at the Fischler School. Dr. Packer-Muti has been employed at NSU since 1987 and is a professor in the Department of Justice and Human Services at the Abraham S. Fischler College of Education and School of Criminal Justice (FCE&SCJ).
Dr. Packer-Muti earned her bachelor’s degree at Douglass College of Rutgers University with a major in speech-language pathology and a minor in psychology, her master’s degree in audiology from Columbia University and her doctoral degree in education at NSU. Dr. Packer-Muti works with faculty and administrators across NSU on direct and indirect measures of student learning outcomes and has taught numerous courses in an online, blended and face-to-face formats to undergraduate, masters, and doctoral students.
She has been an invited speaker on a variety of topics in higher education at the state and national level. Dr. Packer-Muti has served on the Board of Trustees of a National Foundation (the American Academy of Audiology Foundation) and is currently a Broward County Guardian Ad Litem (for the last seven years), serving in a volunteer capacity on behalf of children who have been adjudicated to the dependency court system.
