Nova Southeastern University’s fully online Master of Science (M.S.) in Elementary Education prepares educators and other professionals to deepen their knowledge of elementary education, curriculum, instruction, and student learning. The program develops expertise in educational theory, instructional strategies, curriculum development, evidence-based teaching practices, assessment, and learning outcomes. This program does not lead to teacher certification or state licensure.
Designed for working professionals, NSU’s flexible online program can be completed in as little as 18 months. Through a research-informed curriculum, you’ll develop practical expertise in curriculum planning and implementation, instructional strategies, learning theories, assessment, and educational research. You’ll learn to design engaging learning experiences, apply innovative teaching practices, evaluate educational approaches, use assessment data to inform educational decisions, and support student learning and achievement. Coursework led by experienced university faculty connects educational research with current teaching practices and real-world applications.
Graduates may pursue opportunities in K-12 schools, higher education, educational organizations, community-based learning programs, and other education-focused environments, with roles such as curriculum specialist, instructional coordinator, education program coordinator, instructional designer, and other education-related positions. Some positions may require state certification, licensure, endorsements, professional experience, or other credentials. Employment and credential requirements vary by state and employer. This program does not lead to teacher certification or state licensure.

The applied professional experience is the capstone in the completion of this program. Conducted in an appropriate educational setting, candidates will maintain reflective journals and create files of samples of their students' work and the assessment instruments used to demonstrate achievement of the state professional and content standards. All applied professional experiences are accompanied by a portfolio detailing the rationale, process, and evaluation of the project. This course is one of the many practical applications included in the program.
