Professional Interests

Fernando A. Laracuente, Ed.D graduated from Nova Southeastern University in 2006 with a Doctor of Education (Ed.D.) in Child, Youth, & Family Studies.  He holds a Master's of Science in Education (2000) and a Bachelor of Education from Long Island University (1999). He has also earned a second Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Florida Atlantic University (2014). He has worked as a Registered Nurse, Child Protective Investigator for the NYC Administration for Children Services (ACS) and Florida Department of Children's and Families. In addition, he has worked as a school counselor over the years.  

His primary interests are providing and improving services to children in foster care and/or other the supervision of the Department of
Children & Families. Dr. Laracuente enjoys sharing his perspective from a nursing/medical model to a mental health perspectives, in hopes that his students can use this knowledge to deliver high quality care to the families that they serve. Currently, Dr. Laracuente works full -time for Miami-Dade County Public Schools as a Clinical Nurse Educator and the Institute for the Study of Human Services, Health & Justice. He resides with his wife in Miami, Florida.
