Delivery Options

Coursework for an Ed.S. with a specialization in Educational Leadership is offered online and at many of NSU's campuses with evening or weekend classes which will allow you to receive and submit coursework and interact with participants and professors via the Internet. This distance delivery option allows busy professionals to complete their degrees without having to leave their jobs or travel long distances. 

Who Should Apply

  • Practicing prekindergarten through 12th grade teachers seeking a graduate degree or recertification with interest in the educational leadership field.
  • Master’s degree education graduates seeking a graduate degree, recertification and/or additional certification area in educational leadership.

Florida Certification Track

  • Completed admission application packet, including a $50 nonrefundable application fee made payable to Nova Southeastern University
  • Official transcript indicating conferral of a master’s degree by a regionally accredited institution (3.0 minimum grade-point average required)
  • Official transcripts from all previously attended postsecondary institutions 

Additional Entrance Requirements (effective for students entering in Fall 2018 and later)

  • Applicants must have a current Professional Educator’s Certificate

  • Supervisor Recommendation Form from a supervisor at the applicant’s school or district demonstrating the applicant’s leadership potential and skills

  • Applicants must submit two most recent performance evaluations or equivalent (Section 1012.31, F.S.) with obtained earnings of an “effective” or higher rating

The administrative internship is the culminating experience in this program. The purpose of this internship is to provide an opportunity to perform the duties of a school or district administrator. Under the guidance of an experienced cooperating administrator and a faculty supervisor, the intern will observe, interview, and work with the assigned administrator for a minimum of 300 contact hours. In addition, students will maintain a leadership portfolio detailing the role and responsibilities of an educational leader.

Students are advised to contact their department of education or an Enrollment Services Representative (Academic Advisor) to determine if this program is suitable for certification/licensure and their career goals. It is the responsibility of each student to contact his or her state department of education regarding certification, recertification, and/or endorsement requirements.

Nevada Certification Track

  • Completed admission application packet including a nonrefundable application fee made payable to Nova Southeastern University
  • Official transcripts indicating conferral of a master's degree by a regionally accredited institution (3.0 minimum cumulative grade point average required)
  • Official transcripts from all previously attended postsecondary institutions
  • Valid Professional Teaching Certificate/License
  • Official Verification Letter (documenting at least three years of teaching experience)
  • Student Enrollment Agreement (available in application packet)

Under the guidance of an experienced cooperating administrator and a faculty supervisor, the intern will observe, interview, and work with the assigned administrator for a minimum of 240 contact hours. In addition, students will maintain a leadership portfolio detailing the role and responsibilities of an educational leader.
The educational specialist in educational leadership, state approved in Nevada and states other than Florida, meets all requirements of the Department of Education’s educational specialist certification/license.

Please be advised that in accordance with state and federal regulations, Nova Southeastern University (NSU) is required to provide the following information to prospective students considering enrollment in a degree program that customarily leads to professional licensure, as well as current students enrolled in these programs. 

*PROFESSIONAL LICENSURE STATEMENT:  At this time, we have not made a determination as to whether the Educational Specialist degree in Educational Leadership meets the educational requirements for professional licensure in other states or territories outside of Florida. Thus, while completion of your NSU program of study may assist in preparing you for your future professional endeavors, we currently have not made a determination as to whether the program leads to professional licensure in the states or territories other than Florida. 

The licensing boards in each state are responsible for establishing the requirements for licensure/certification for their state. Students who intend to return or move to any state other than Florida, or are enrolled in an online program and are physically located in a state other than Florida, need to review the professional licensure disclosures pertaining to their program and consult with the state professional licensing board.  The state professional licensing boards make the ultimate decision as to whether or not an individual will be eligible to sit for licensure based on the rules and regulations in place at the time the individual submits their application for licensure.
