Hurricane Irma

Help After Irma

Dear Fischler College of Education students,

Following Hurricane Irma's devastating impact on the Keys and the significant damage and flooding that occurred throughout many parts of Florida, our thoughts are with all those who experienced extensive losses and personal duress during this catastrophic event.  It is our sincere hope that you and your families as well as peers, colleagues and neighbors remained safe and sound during the storm, and that all current recovery efforts are succeeding in returning things back to normal.

Now that Nova Southeastern University has reopened and classes have resumed, the Fischler College of Education maintains a paramount commitment to assisting and supporting those of you who were affected by Irma. Thus, if your power has not yet been restored or you are still experiencing internet/cell phone interruptions, transportation issues, or other challenges that impact academic progress and success, please know that our faculty are fully prepared to assist and work with you in providing the necessary adjustments in class assignments, due dates, and other activities that were unexpectedly suspended, delayed or deferred.  Similarly, this flexibility will extend to all students, as needed, in order to accommodate NSU’s 11-day closure and its impact on our fall academic calendar.

Outreach at this time is also important, and your professors have been and will be sending messages through Blackboard and NSU email asking how you are doing.  In addition, if you are aware of or have specific information about classmates and others who are unable to reengage with their courses because of storm-related circumstances, please let your professors know.  They, as well as the academic department chairs and I, will follow up with these individuals to discern their current needs.

All of us in the Fischler Family stand ready to extend our support to those in the affected areas, and shown below are resources that you can contact for additional guidance and answers to questions:
