Teaching English To Speakers of Other Languages

The Fischler College of Education is no longer accepting new applicants for this program.

The Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) Endorsement program at the Nova Southeastern University (NSU) Fischler College of Education is designed for practicing and certified educators who are working with English language learners. The program teaches assessment and instruction strategies for Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages. Offered online and on-site in South Florida, the courses in the program meet the Florida Department of Education’s requirements for an endorsement in TESOL.

  • Completed admission application packet, including a $50 nonrefundable application fee made payable to Nova Southeastern University
  • Official transcript indicating conferral of a bachelor's degree by a regionally accredited institution (2.5 minimum cumulative grade point average required)
  • Official transcripts from all previously attended postsecondary institutions
  • Valid teaching certificate

Coursework in the TESOL Endorsement at the Fischler College of Education is available online and at many of the NSU Campuses, including the main campus in Ft. Lauderdale (South Florida). The online delivery option allows students to receive a distance education by submitting coursework and interacting with participants and professors via the Internet. The site-based delivery option allows students to take classes in the evenings or on weekends in locations near their homes. The distance delivery option allows international students and busy professionals to complete the TESOL program without having to leave their jobs or travel long distances.

Faculty members for the master of science in education are scholars and educators from Nova Southeastern University and other major universities and institutions throughout the country. In addition many are also highly respected professional practitioners, who are carefully selected on the basis of their subject expertise, teaching abilities, and professional involvement. Most importantly, they are united in their desire to not only educate, but to inspire students to use what they learn to motivate others.

  • Satisfactory completion of all required coursework
  • Cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or higher

Courses in the program meet Florida Department of Education requirements for an endorsement in TESOL, and can only be added on to a current certificate in another subject area. It is the responsibility of the student to contact his or her state department of education regarding certification, recertification, and/or endorsement requirements.
